Sisal is a small historic port on the Yucatán Gulf coast, named a Pueblo Mágico by the Mexican government in 2020 in recognition of its maritime heritage and its restored 19th-century pier — once Yucatán's main seaport before Progreso took over that role in 1871. Today it's a quiet coastal village with a calm beach, a lagoon, and real bird habitat, not a resort town.
Sisal is not the Riviera Maya, and it doesn't try to be. It's a genuinely peaceful village that happens to have more investment in its streets, pier, and public spaces than its smaller Gulf coast neighbors, thanks to its Pueblo Mágico recognition.
